At first it was kind of sweet, really cute
Narrative
It follows two friends who, in different ways, struggle with the same issues surrounding their sexuality. As someone in the LGBTQ+ community, it was really frustrating. Two older men who are maybe starting to discover new things about themselves (yay!). There’s nothing wrong with that and I support that.
Maybe the movie is trying to make you feel that way, but no
Then, as the movie goes on, it becomes pretty clear that the emphasis is not at all on self-discovery and growth as a person. They end up going around in circles, talking about identity and emotions with people who don’t support what they feel or focus on the wrong thing. I just wanted to scream at them to stop listening to their idiotic partners and other people in their lives and just go talk to someone who knows! Now all we had was people with no experience in being queer (or not) trying to trust inexperienced people.
The dialogue is spot on and pretty funny
They just came up with baseless theories and ended up with annoying conclusions. I never quite get it and I make the MCs feel bad for it. If that was the point of the movie, to just be frustrating and toxic, it’s amazing you pulled it off. But do I think they portrayed queer people well and showed a healthy way to deal with emotions?
Not at all
NO. If they at least added something to show how bad this ends up in the long run and how unhealthy it is, I would love that. But now it’s stuck in a grey area where nothing is actually resolved and the characters find it manageable so they ignore it and move on. The movie makes it seem like it has a good ending.
This is toxic
I don’t think that’s fair! Please talk to specialists. And don’t be afraid to explore your sexual or gender identity just because the people around you don’t understand it. Love from someone queer <3.
